He tried to hide the piece of tape in his underwear after umpires called him over to question what he had been doing.Bancroft and Smith made the confession at the post-day news conference.The plan was hatched, Smith said, as South Africa began to run away with the game on day three at Newlands. South Africa ended the day nearly 300 runs ahead. "I sit before you today and Im not proud of it at all.Although the two on-field umpires, Richard Illingworth and Nigel Llong of England, questioned Bancroft at the time, he produced what appeared to be a black sunglasses bag from his right pocket in way of explanation, and clearly to deceive the umpires."Im embarrassed," Smith said.
